The vegetable patch: first harvest
Regular readers of this strand – that’s you Janet – will remember that in June we were getting excited about leaves. Well, leaves are so last month. Now we’ve got actual chillies (see left in the picture) that I’m reliably informed will turn green, then red, then blow your head off. And in the third pic you can see that the broccoli is starting to form a small head. Most exciting of all though are the lettuces (second from left) that are getting pulled up any time someone fancies a salad, and the peas (right) that tend to be popped open then popped straight in the mouth.
Highlights from the other plants include: courgettes starting to flower; the flat leaf parsley that turned out to be celery (or is it celeriac?); and amazingly one of the tomato plants actually has small, green tomatoes. It’s surely going to be a bumper harvest. Watch this space …

I would just like to say. I have myself been fortunate enough to taste the lettace and Pea pods grown in our lovely garden and the difference in taste is amazing. Here’s to many more harvests!!
